Helen (Hogan) Donlan
Helen Hogan Donlan, 89, of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024 surrounded by her beloved family. Helen was born on July 24, 1935 to John and Ellen Hogan. She grew up in Roslindale and loved her years living by the water on Cape Cod and in New Bedford. Helen graduated from Southern Massachusetts University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work.
Helen dedicated her life to guiding and protecting children across the Commonwealth as a member of the Massachusetts Department of Social Services. Even after her retirement, Helen remained committed to helping and advocating for the most vulnerable members of the community; she was actively involved in a number of volunteer organizations and programs including Fitchburg Citizens on Patrol, the Fitchburg Animal Shelter, and the Montachusett Interfaith Hospitality Network. With her cherished pets by her side, Helen brought immense joy to the children of the Fitchburg Public Schools as a member of TheraPaws, which provides animal-assisted therapy. Born on March 16, 1934, in Boston, MA, Helen was the loving daughter of the late James and Jennie Costello. Her life was a testament to the power of grace, kindness, and unwavering commitment to her family and community.
Helen grew up in the vibrant neighborhood of Hyde Park, where she attended and graduated from Hyde Park High School. It was here that she established lifelong friendships and developed the values that would guide her throughout her life. Helen married her soulmate, the late Arthur Lamb, and together they raised a family grounded in love and mutual respect.
She leaves behind a legacy through her children: Arthur C. Lamb and his wife Kristie Larson of California, Stephen J. Lamb and his wife Linda of Taunton, Gregory Lamb and his wife Susan of Canton, and Janet Lamb Cushing and her husband Joseph of Boston. Helen was the proud grandmother of Nikki, Anya, Mitchell, Daniel, James, Kevin, and Stacey Lamb, as well as William Crimmins. Her unwavering love and guidance shaped the lives of her children and grandchildren in profound ways.
