I. INTRODUCTION

Wind energy is a fast-growing interdisciplinary field that encompasses many different branches of engineering and science. According to the American Wind Energy Association, the installed capacity of wind grew at an average rate of 29% per year over the years [1]. At the end of , the installed capacity in the United States was nearly 17, megawatts (MW) and the worldwide installed capacity was over 94, MW (see Fig. 1). Wind is recognized worldwide as a cost-effective, environmentally friendly solution to energy shortages. Although the U.S. receives only about 1% of its electrical energy from wind [1], that figure in Denmark is more than 15% [2]. A comprehensive report by the U.S. Department of Energy [3] lays the framework for achieving 20% of the U.S. electrical energy generation from wind by the year This report covers technological, manufacturing, transmission and integration, market, environmental, and siting factors.
