The education system which was evolved first in ancient India is known as the Vedic system of education. In other words, the ancient system of education were based on the Vedas and therefore it was given the name of Vedic Educational System. Some scholars have sub divided Vedic Educational period into Rig-Veda period, Brahmani period, Upanishad period, Sutra (Hymn) period, Smriti period etc but all these period, due to predominance of the Vedas, there was no change in the aims and ideals of educations. That is why, the education of these periods, is studied under Vedic period.-Swadeshe Pujyate Raja, Vidwan Sarvatra Pujyate. This verse widely quoted in India illustrates the significance of education in India. Panchanan Barma (1866–1935), also known as Thakur Panchanan or Panchanan Sarkar, was a Rajbanshi leader and social reformer from Cooch Behar, West Bengal, India.[citation needed] He dedicated his life for the improvement of backward class people, specifically for his own backward Rajbanshi community.[citation needed] He established a KshatriyaSabhā (caste association) to instill Brahminical values and practices in people of his own caste.[1] He was popularly known as the father of the Rajbanshi society.[citation needed]
Early life
[edit]Panchanan Barma was born in 1866 in a middle-class jotedar family at Khalisamari village of Mathabhanga subdivision, in erstwhile Cooch Behar state. He was the son of Khoshal Sarkar (father) and Champala Sarkar (mother). His father sent him to a Middle-English high school, named Mathabhanga High School for education. After passing Middle English examination from the Mathabhanga High School, he took admission into the Jenkins High School for further education and passed the High English examination. He completed his graduation in 1893 from the Victoria College (present Acharya Brojendra Nath Seal College) --then affiliated to the Universit
