    Professor Huib Schippers was the founding Director of Queensland Conservatorium Research Centre (2003-2015). Performance training in sitar music led to an interest in global music education and action-research projects in Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. He established and led the first World Music School in Amsterdam (1990) and later was the principal driver behind the World Music & Dance Centre in Rotterdam (2006). He has taught and lectured across the world, and published extensively on learning and teaching for over 20 years, most notably in his- Oxford University Press publication 'Facing the music: shaping music education from a global perspective' (2010). His current research interest is music sustainability, approached from the perspective of 'cultural ecosystems' that he developed as part of an international ARC funded research collaboration, the results of which were published by Oxford University Press in 2016 and 2022.
